Gin Tasting, Distillery Tour and Gin School
Do you fancy yourself as a master distiller or perhaps just like the idea of visiting a local distillery literally 5 minutes away from The Double Red Duke. Our local supplier, Wood Brothers, produces all their gin from their farm just down the road. Book in for a tour of the distillery and a gin tasting where you’ll learn all about what Charlie and Ed do on their farm to make the most fantastic gin or you can even turn your hand to making your very own gin at their gin School. You can then come back and enjoy a Wood Brothers gin and tonic at The Double Red Duke safe in the knowledge that you’re now an expert.
Now that’s a great way to remember you weekend away.
Remember to book a taxi in advance with reception so you can make sure you can taste all those different gin varieties!
Shooting Parties
With so many great shooting estates in the area you can book in, have a great day out and then kick of those muddy boots, and enjoy our 12 seater (14 at a squeeze) feasting room, with your own sitting room and chat about that great shot over a few bottles of red, by the fire. What could be better? We only work with the very best estates so please enquire and we can help you book the perfect day.
Walking & Cycling Tours
We have teamed up with the Carter Company to offer you some very carefully organised self-guided tours with hosts providing you all equipment and maps along the way.
The Thames Source to Sea is a 10 night cycling tour where The Thames leads you on a unique adventure through the heart and history of England. One of your nights stay on this is at The Double Red Duke.
The Country Creatures Cycling Tour is a 4 night trip taking in all 3 Country Creatures properties and the beautiful rolling Cotswold hills as well as the changing terrain along the Thames to Clanfield.
If you prefer travelling on foot The Country Creatures Walking Tour is also a 4 night trip incorporating all of our Country Creatures properties with walks of 4-7 miles each day. A fantastic way to explore the beautiful countryside and villages of the Cotswolds.
Local Walks
The Double Red Duke lies in some beautiful surrounding countryside and there are many fantastic walks from literally right outside the front door. For those who are looking for a real hike, the Thames Path is within walking distance and we also have some smaller walks detailed on our walking map. You will find copies of this map in your bedroom or at reception.
Fly Fishing in the Cotswolds
Within half an hour of The Swan, you’ll find some wonderful wild trout streams and trout lakes that offer great fly fishing – a challenge for experienced anglers or a chance for beginners to learn to fly fish for the first time. We’ve teamed up with a local fly fishing company Blue Zulu Fly Fishing to offer you the chance to experience fly fishing for yourself under the tuition of a local guide.
Enjoy a half day or full day session alone or in groups of up to three people. Each session is specifically designed for your level of fishing experience and interests. Prices start at £150 for a half-day session on a river or lake with all tackle provided.
The Great Outdoors
