Set in the heart of Clanfield, The Double Red Duke pairs bold interiors, assured British cooking and thoughtfully designed bedrooms, all under one roof.
Just under half an hour from Oxford, The Double Red Duke makes slipping out of the city wonderfully straightforward. Once a 17th-century pub, it has been carefully reworked into a characterful spot to eat, drink and stay a while.
Honeyed Cotswold stone, timeworn details and generous spaces make it feel relaxed from the off. Upstairs, nineteen individually designed bedrooms range from cosy doubles to spacious family rooms. Downstairs, open-fire cooking brings depth and flavour to the best seasonal British produce.
We keep good company when it comes to suppliers, working with local growers we know by name. The seasons set the tone, the countryside provides the ingredients and our kitchen does the rest.
Upstairs, you’ll find 19 bedrooms, no two quite alike. Expect character, comfort and the sort of details that make it hard to rush off in the morning. Many come with roll-top baths for a proper soak, and 100 Acres toiletries to keep things simple. Some of our rooms are dog-friendly, which makes us one of the best places to stay in the Cotswolds – whether you’re travelling with walking boots or a loyal companion in tow.
Any excuse for a gathering suits us just fine. Small groups, big celebrations, somewhere in between – our Feasting Room, Garden Room and Bar can all be set just right.
Whether it’s a meeting that deserves better than a boardroom or a lunch that turns into supper, we’ll take care of the details so you can settle in.
Just across the road from The Double Red Duke sits The Duchess, an eight-bedroom house available for exclusive hire and perfectly suited to a more secluded Cotswold break. It carries the same easy charm and considered design, only this time the keys are entirely yours.
For a slower moment during your Cotswold break, retreat to our Shepherd’s Hut treatment room, quietly set in the gardens at The Double Red Duke.
Our therapists use 100 Acres aromatherapy products to deliver treatments focused on deep relaxation and gentle restoration, so you can return to the fire, the bar or the hills feeling yourself again.
We’ve never been ones to turn down a reason to assemble a crowd. From hotly contested pub quizzes to chef-led suppers, summer barbecues and the odd bat-and-ball rivalry, our calendar is rarely quiet. Whether you favour thoughtful cooking or a guided tour through the wine list, our events give the week a reason to dress up a little – locals and weekend escapees alike.
